Flambeau August 2005
Flambeau River is in northern Wisconsin. It is a beautiful river and lake. There are options to canoe about 20, 30 and 40 miles. Our scouts decided they wanted to do all 50 miles. We arrived Friday afternoon and canoed 9 miles on the lake. The river trip was 42 miles over 2 1/2 days.

Thanks to Michelle, Roger, Shawn, Greg and Bill for the great pictures to remember the trip.
van

This is the hearty crew before they headed up north nearly 6 hours to start their adventure. We had 11 1st, 2nd and 3rd year scouts and 11 adults on the trip.

Flambeau lake
dump

Friday night, we put in 8-9 miles on the lake. How do you totally dump a canoe in calm water on a lake? You'll have to ask Steven and Michael to get an answer. It was nice to see all of the scouts remembered their water rescue training.
loadup

We needed 2 vehicles to load all of the gear, canoes and scouters.
start

All packed and ready to head out. We had 22 miles to do the first day.
billalec
Bill and Alec look a little too relaxed considering how far we need to go.
camp
Day one camp. The Boy Scout Camp site was a nice place to camp.
rock

After 22 miles, the scouts still had energy to climb rocks.
day1

Isn't it supposed to be warm in August? We had temps into the 40's at night.
meal
All meals were freeze dried and rehydrated with boiling water on whisperlights. Everyone was amazed at how good the food was. We survived on freeze dried food and gorp. What more do you need?
fish

Day 2 was only 13 miles. It had more rapids and a falls. There was even time to fish along the way.
fire
Day 2 camp was at Cedar Rapids. This was a beautiful site with rapids by our camp. What is a scout camp out without a fire?
meal
Nothing like another freeze dried meal.
firstaid
Carlson is in good hands after a cut from the saw.

The Flambeau River in the morning.

Another view of the river in the morning.
cedarrapids
Starting day 3 was the Cedar Rapids. It was a lot of fun going through.
beaver6
Looking over Beaver Dam before going over. This can be a dangerous crossing and it is important to know where to go over. Nobody swamped their canoe going over.

end
After 2 1/2 days on the river, 50 miles and 2 nights camping, they can still smile.

A fitting end to an AWESOME trip!
