Troop 55 Ulers' Farm Camp Out 2005

Ulfers' Farm has been a favorite camp out of the scouts for many years. It is one of the few places left where you can build shelters, cook on an open fire, and Harvey burns a tree for the campfire! This year was no exception.

flag

Our troop flag was placed at the entrance to the farm.

A few of the scout tents.

The river bed is normally dry. This year, with all of the rain, there was plenty of water.

Saturday morning, each patrol started cooking breakfast on an open fire.

shelter

After the service project, some of the patrols started to build wilderness shelters to sleep in that night. Many styles and designs, but all the scouts built them themselves.

They all had fun building the shelters and all slept in them. That night, it frosted, but the scouts stayed warm.

The topic for the month is engineering. After the shelters were built, there was an egg drop contest. Each patrol received the same materials to use and could use any design they could come up with. The final contestants.

At the front of the farm is an old railroad trestle that is now used as a bike trail.

First up was the Tiger patrol. They tried padding and using a parachute.

Next up was the Dragons. Their first design was damaged, so they went to backup design.

Finally, it was time for the "Old Goat" Patrol. I missed the drop, but it did drop.

Declared the winner. It had a crack in the shell, but didn't break.
