Troop 55 Red Flannel Camping 2006
It was our second attempt at red flannel this year. January didn't cooperate - who would believe that it could be too warm? We had one group that made red flannel in early February, and now it was our turn. We had great weather (?) for a red flannel camp out.
We had adirondacks to use. With a ground cloth covering the front, the wind stayed out. |
|
On a cold morning, the most important thing is get a good fire going.
One requirement is cooking over wood. Burgers, chicken and beans - what else could you ask for? |
|
Do they cook faster if everyone watches?
We had a service project for the camp. Last summer, many trees were lost in a big storm. There were piles of wood stacked in the forest. .
We moved and stacked 3 piles. The next group here should have plenty of wood.
Resting after a job well done!
Roy heads over for some hot chocolate.
Roger works on his cherry upside down cake. The last bit of batter goes in |
|
Where's a scout to clean the bowls when you need one?
Quinn cuts up a few long pieces of wood. .
Trying to stay warm until supper is ready. When the sun went down,
it got cold quickly. 4 degrees and wind makes you glad to have a very warm sleeping bag. |
|
On a cold night, a campfire is a wonderful thing!
Yes, the water in the wash basins froze as did any water remaining in the water jugs.
Warming up by the fire until breakfast is ready. Lots of fun and a great time was had by all.. |
