Maquoketa Caves 2007 | ||
Troop 55 went back to the caves at Maquoketa. Several weeks earlier, they had a major storm and the park had been closed. You could still see areas of damage from the rain. From the damage, it must have been an amazing storm. They received 9 inches of rain.D

This year, we had the group campsite further from the parking lot. Their group sites are set up such that you cannot bring the trailer to the camp site, so you have to carry all of your gear. Including dining fly, dutch ovens, etc. |
||
The dining fly set up. We needed it for the sun and the rain.

Some of the caves . . . | ||
The ceiling of this part of the cave is about 8 feet. These electrical lines are on the ceiling! |
||
It's hard to imagine the amount of water it took to completely fill this cavern and put sticks and debris here. Debris was still present in many of the smaller cave entrances leading off this main channel.

The scouts were a little dirty after a day in the caves.
Everyone had a great time! There are always new caves to climb into everytime you go. More pictures to follow as I get them. |
