May 2008 Canoeing Merit Badge "Wet Work"
This year, we are planning another trip to the
Flambeau River. So that the younger scouts can go, they must have several Merit Badges. One of them is the
Canoeing badge. Al has been working with them on the dry work. Today, they get wet! We are very fortunate to have the ranger at George Wythe park helping us again by letting us use some of their canoes and kayaks.
The group listens to some last minute instruction.
Yea, Al's Kayak is really nice. |
|
Bringing over the canoes.
Getting ready to get into the lake. |
|
A few last minute safety tips.
And they are off . . . We had 3 life guards in the water and one on land. |
|
Al notices that his kayak isn't going anywhere, yet . . .
On the other side of the lake, we had a few stations set up. Each one had a different skill to learn and prove. |
|
One of the stations involves, tipping over a canoe and putting back upright.
I think there is a canoe somewhere. |
|
|
There is the nose of the canoe. |
