Vertical Endeavors January 2010
This was the first time our Troop has ventured to Vertical Endeavors. They have a beautiful facility with lots of areas to do whatever type of climbing you desire. They will go through the entire Climbing Merit Badge if you arrange this in advance. They do a really good job teaching the badge as well as giving you plenty of time to climb.
After getting our gear, we had an informational session before starting to climb.
Caleb, Alex and Ben start to climb. |
|
Dan nears the top of one wall
Adam scales easily |
|
Greg shows even the adults can do it and have fun
Ben gets to one of the more difficult areas with a reverse slope |
|
Dan was able to climb all of the areas we could use. This was a difficlut area with the outcropping
Next was more instruction. The scouts were taught how to tie the knots they would need for climbing. There were no clips on these ropes, only your knot to keep you from falling. |
|
Kendall checks his knot before climbing
More instruction and review |
|
Kendall descends | |
Caleb looks at one of the walls for lead climbing. We watched many very good climbers scale this side. |
|
Adam scales another wall
The last requirement was rapelling. Ben shows his style. |
|
Adam makes it look easy.
Nick bounces down the side |
|
This is a wonderful place for the scouts to get the climbing Merit Badge. The scouts and adults enjoyed their day there. |
