2010 National Jamboree Day 10

Monday was the last full day that scouts had to enjoy the Jamboree. On Tuesday, they had the morning, but then had to be back in camp by noon to start packing up to be ready to leave on Wednesday morning. Lucky for me, I received a call from my son asking if I wanted to tag along with them today.

I was dropped off by the MountainBoarding area. Interesting to watch. Sort of a cross between Snowboarding and Skateboarding.

A staff shows the scouts how it is done.

Looks like they are having fun

The staff was very serious about this rule.

The scouts cooked their meals in camp by Patrols. How do you feed lots of adult staff in the subcamps? Temporary kitchens.

The cooks did an amazing job with the amount of food they had to cook and the time they had to do it.

The Commissary supplied all of the food to the Troop camps

Dan and the 2 Erics had 3 stations left to complete to get all of the segments (which was their goal) for Jamboree. I met them at fishing.

Cullen shows off his fishing style. The pond was stocked with about 20,000 fish before Jamboree started.

There were lots of scouts fishing this morning.

The last area was the "Back woods Area" There were many options here. The first stop was "Dragon Boats" A group of 12 paddle the Dragon Boat on a timed course.

Some teams were very fast, some were slow. Their team was a little faster than average.

The last stop was "Shell Boats" You could have a single or double. The seat slid while you rowed making it a little more efficient. The 2 Erics show their form.

Having completed the requirements for all of the segments, now they could just have fun. We walked to Technology Quest. First stop was the demonstration tent. Yes, who can pass up a change to burn, explode and blow up stuff? Here she shows gases burning.

You can just see the remains of a hydrogen balloon and flame.

It was fun watching the paddlewheeler be assembled.

One of the many Gateways from a Texas Troop.

chuck

An interesting arch

There were 4 of these, one for each Troop entrance. Looked like they must be used at each Jamboree. Very nice.

What else would you expect from the Abraham Lincoln council?

An interesting version of the White House.

Another really good Lighthouse. The light even worked.

One of many helicopters.

There were a lot of really large Gateways.
