2010 National Jamboree Day 5
Wednesday started off with the big show in the Arena.
On the way to the arena, they were inflating several balloons. The National Eagle Scout Assocation balloon was very nice.
There are very very unique Troop gateways. |
Another Dinosaur gateway.
They had lots of water set out for each arena show. Wednesday was hot enough, we used a lot of it. |
There was a full medical tent at the back of the arena. |
Some of the scouts left camp 90 minutes early to get to the Arena on time. There was still a long line waiting to get into the arena. |
One side of the arena as scouts still are entering.
Looking toward the main stage. |
The Honor Guard getting ready to enter the arena.
The opening flag ceremony.
The MC was the two millionth Eagle Scout. |
The main speaker was Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense. He had an amazing speech. It can be listened to here
The Air Force Honor Guard had a fun demonstration. |
They were in perfect time for every maneuver.
4 wrestlers from the WWE were there and wer going to be in a regional stage that afternoon. I'm told it was very crowded. |
The Golden Knights are incredible
All 6 jumpers landed on the same target behind the banner. It was too cloudy, so we were unable to see the freefall portion. |
The last jumper had the patriotic parachute.
Miss America also showed up and had a short speech. |
The artilary was there for the final number.
They were loud! |
The final jumper had the worlds largest parachute flag. There was lots of people at the landing pad to catch the flag before it hit the ground.
One exit street after the show. |
The National Guard had a huge display.
The chopper built by Orange County Choppers was in the National Guard tent. |
As was Dale Earnhardts' car
It was interactive and the boys got to climb in the boats and vehicles and learn about them. |
The Air Force Honor Guard had a demonstration
There wasa long line for the monkey bridge and ropes. |
In the NESA tent was astronaut Mike Fossum. He has been on the Space Shuttle twice and is scheduled to be on the Space Station next year. Besides being an Eagle Scout, he is a Scoutmaster!
over at the Merit Badge Midway, the air rifles were popular. |
Buck a Roo Bob was fun | |
There are always rules. |
And they are off. It was a 3 person team, each racing one lap.
In the Indian Village, there was a man showing off all of the potions doctors used to use at that time. |
The Railroad merit badge looked like fun. In one tent was a large, fully functional train layout.
The other tent had small layouts with tasks for each scout to accomplish. |
In the O.A. area, the members were in full costume. Leading many authentic Indian dances and many other activties. |
