2010 National Jamboree Day 8

Saturday was a very busy day at the Jamboree. It was open for visitors. Estimated attendance with visitors was about 100,000.

There are many really well done Troop Gateways.

Another interesting gateway.

Need directions?

Pop can golf was very popular with the scouts.

The target was the recycling bin, but all of the scouts were aiming for the frog.

In one of the display tents was a listing of many BSA troops outside of the US.

Archery was fun. There are 4 identical Activity centers.

The line was long for Shotguns, even with a lot of stations.

In each Activity Center is an area called "Buckskin Games". One of the areas was Black Powder rifles.

This area was about telling "tales of the past". Some of them might even have been true.

100,000 people really clog up the roads . . .

Patch trading was very popular. Some scouts spent all day trading.

The Hot Air balloons were tethered. No rides (unfortuantely!))

One of the first things in the Evenings show was the Black Daggers. Army equivalent of the Golden Knights. I had never seen one with multiple smoke trails. Very cool.

The next 2 were a new variation in group jumping. They never truely stacked the chutes, but came down the entire distance this way right up to the last 20 feet when they separated.

The stage lit up at night.

This is a flag made from reminants of flags from 9-11. It was inspiring to see.

The show was 2 1/2 hours long. One of the groups playing was Honor Society. Never heard of them before, but they were alright.

Mike Rowe could have talked all night. He was funny, told great stories, and had a great message, as well as rules for dirt.

The show ended with the lighting of candles from the last campfire of the last Jamboree to be held at Fort A P Hill.

With the lights off, and the candles lit, the arena looked great. Following this, was a 30 minute fireworks display. Truely, one of the best.
