Fall Camporee September 2011

The Fall Camporee was at Antique Acres this year. The topic was American Heritage. The scouts had the opportunity to earn the American Heritage Merit Badge. There also was a Civil War reenactment of Pickets Charge. The scouts got to participants in the reenactment.

By the afternoon, the clouds came rolling in.

we had a lot of scouts and adults, so we set up both dining flys and 4 tables.

The scouts were broken into groups. to complete the Merit Badge, you had to complete all of the stations. Here a Confederate camp

The tents were used only at large camps. These did not go with them to the field.

One of the favorite stations was artillery. They had 2 cannons and fired both!

To carry on horseback, the tents had to be small.

In the Confederate camp, they had a display of different cooking supplies and spices.

they showed the different types of guns, knives and the equipment they carried in their packs.

There was a dentist and a doctor.

The medical display showed many of the medications they used.

In the afternoon, the Calvary rode.

A full time display is the old rail car. Inside is an amazing display of history and Iowa military history.

The Confederates also take casualties.

The Union took more casualties. Didn't look good for the Union until they flanked the Confederates and shot many of them, the rest retreated.

The reenactment was great to watch and the scouts fun participating. A HUGE Thank-You goes out to everyone who helped arrange this.
