Maquoketa Caves State Park June 2012

Maquoketa Caves is always a fun campout. For several years, it was closed because of Bat White nose Syndrome (this is real, I'm not making this up). Bats were dying from this.

Our goal for the weekend.

Getting ready for breakfast.

Waiting for the charcoal to be ready for dutch ovens.

The older scouts show a newer scout how to cook.

Before you could go caving, you had to go through a mandatory class about the bats and white nose syndrome.

Walking down the long stairs to the caves.

As they were going up the stairs, a rock started to fall. All were saved by Kirstens' fast action. At least, that's her story.

Just a small trickle of water this year.

I think they had fun.

The parents were warned the scouts might get a little muddy.
