Troop 55 high Adventures

Our High Adventure plans are getting finalized.

We have a full crew headed to Philmont this summer.

2 crews headed to OKPIK for winter camping in January. 1 lake stay and 1 cabin stay.

1 crew headed to Philmont in 2025.

Plans for another SeaBase trip in 2026.

So many fun things ahead for our scouts (and adults).

Future Troop 55 High Adventures.

Liz has started a survey to see what the scouts and scouters want to do in the next few years. We have a full crew headed to Philmont in 2024. Hoping for OKPIK in 2025. Looking at SeaBase and Summit Bechtel for 2025 and 2026. Just have to decide where they fit. Looks like a LOT of fun coming up in the next few years.

We have had a very strong High Adventure Program in our Troop over the years, and it’s good to see it is in good hands with Liz.

Wilderness First Aid

We had our Wilderness First Aid class today with 22 registered and 20 attending. They were a great group, had a lot of fun and felt like they learned a lot. A huge thank you to Ed, Brian, Lauren and Ariana for helping to teach.

Our next class is in April. Registration is now open on the council Calendar.

High Adventures 2023

Troop 55 has 2 High Adventure trips planned for 2023.

We currently have a lake stay planned for OKPIK (Ely, Minn) in January. We may add a cabin stay for our younger scouts if we have enough interest. Currently, have 2 interested, need at least 3 more.

SeaBase 2023. We have 3 Coral Reef Sailing trips planned. We have room for 24 scouts and adults and have 21 spots filled. We are looking to fill the last 3 spots. We have flights out of Minneapolis reserved for 24. Leaving 3/11/23 and returning 3/17/22. Having done this in the past, it is SO much fun. Besides living on a 50 ft sailing vessel, you also get to snorkel on 2 or 3 reefs. Absolutely beautiful!

Misc Items

Its been a busy last 2 months.

We have a crew going to Philmont later this year. We now have that crew filled! Awesome!

OKPIK 2022 – we have 2 crews going. The cabin stay has 1 spot left unless we increase to 11. The lake stay crew is up to 10, we have room for 1 more person. Hoping to fill both crews.

Philmont 2022 – our crew is filled.

Last weekend was our Councils Wilderness First Aid training. So much fun to help with as one of the instructors. If you haven’t taken the course, do it. Its an amazing course, and you may need it on an outing at some point. We had 19 attendees. Happy to see so many scouts taking the course.

Bright Spot

After a summer filled with disappointment.  First the fires at Philmont cancelled our trek and many others, and then the cancellation of the entire year due to fires, we were looking for a bright spot.  We had a great number of scouts who attended summer camp and had a good time, but not a High Adventure type good time.

We have 4 scouts attending the National Order of the Arrow Conference.  They should have an amazing time!  Glad they could end the summer on a high note!  Look forward to hearing about what they learned.  Scouts attending from past years have had incredible experiences.
